Abstract

In the present study research was carried out on the compound extracted from Ocimum basilicum leaves and Allium cepa

fruits have antioxidant properties and this effect is increased by increasing the quantity of this compound, which can be

used as an alternative for novel medicine. The crude fruits and leaves were collected from local market and which are

then subjected for drying, extracted using soxhlet apparatus. The extracts were subjected to test the antioxidant activity

using DPPH method. From the DPPH assay it was confirmed that the compounds are having antioxidant activity, IC 50

values were also determined. Therefore, pharmacological test is necessary to isolate and characterize their active

compounds. Moreover, these plant extracts should be investigated in vivo to better understand their safety, efficacy and

properties.
