Abstract

Acute diarrhoea is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children in the developing countries. It is caused by 20- 25 pathogens. Dehydration is the cause of death. Treatment involves correction of dehydration, judicious use of antibiotic and feeding. Sanitation and safe water are important preventive measure. Vaccination is an attractive disease prevention strategy. Oral, effective and safe cholera vaccine has been developed.
