Abstract

The world has already committed blunders in accumulating millions of tons of plastic in the planet, much of which has gone into oceans as micro plastic destroying the eco-system and marine life and the biodiversity enlarge. The unprecedented Covid-19 times have mandated PPEs for health workers and masks for everyone. This has started generating heaps of PPE waste.

In Chandigarh city alone nearly 40,000 kg of biomedical waste (including PPE) is generated every month. Where does this PPE waste go? Much to incinerators. Lots of it is reaching landfills and illiterate public throws it (masks) everywhere.
