AgriSmartX Solar: AI-Powered, Solar-Enabled Smart Irrigation and Fertigation System

Abstract

Water scarcity, unreliable electricity, and limited access to modern agricultural tools are major challenges faced by rural farmers in India. Traditional irrigation practices often result in water wastage, reduced crop yield, and high operational costs. To address these challenges, this paper presents AgriSmartX Solar, an AI-powered, solar- enabled smart irrigation system that combines artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and hybrid communication technologies. The system integrates soil moisture, temperature-humidity, and rainfall sensors along with solenoid valves, relay modules, and water pumps to automate irrigation with high precision. Unlike conventional IoT-based irrigation solutions that depend solely on internet connectivity, AgriSmartX Solar supports dual-mode operation: an offline mode using GSM/SMS communication for areas with poor or no internet access, and an online mode offering mobile app and web portal interfaces for real-time monitoring and control. A solar panel with battery backup ensures uninterrupted functioning in regions with unreliable grid power, promoting sustainability and energy independence. Furthermore, the system incorporates AI-driven irrigation scheduling, leveraging historical data, weather conditions, and crop-specific requirements to optimize water usage. Advanced features such as fertigation and chemigation control enhance productivity by enabling precise application of fertilizers and pesticides. Experimental evaluations indicate that the system conserves water, reduces costs, and improves crop yields, while empowering rural farmers with affordable, accessible, and scalable technology. AgriSmartX Solar demonstrates the potential of intelligent, sustainable irrigation systems to revolutionize precision farming in developing regions.
