Bone and Joint Infections: A Retrospective Chart Review of the Medically Underserved Rio Grande Valley

Abstract

Background: The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) is a demographically unique region. The goal of this study was to expand the knowledge of orthopedics in the RGV and analyze disparities between individuals with osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, and periprosthetic joint infections. Methods: This was a retrospective chart review using the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley UTHealth electronic database from January 1, 2017, to January 1, 2024. We used ICD-10 codes to collect medical charts of individuals with osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, and periprosthetic joint infections.
