Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease [NAFLD] and Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis [NASH] occur due to accumulation of adipose tissue in the hepatic cells. Obesity is considered to be one of the major risk factors for the disease process. NASH and the related spectrum of diseases are one of the major causes of liver failure and in turn liver transplant and death. This contributes to a significant economic burden as well. Weight loss is a key factor for the management of NASH and NAFLD and it can be achieved by various means including life style modifications as well as pharmacological means.
