M Monia was born in 1971 in the Italian countryside and completed her university (MD and PhD) studies at Collegio Ghislieri, an excellence college in Pavia. She is a curious women interested in maths and pathology: this is the reason why she has been practicing as a research hematologist, but also loved to implement disease-specific registries, decision models, cost-effectiveness analyses and evidence-based guidelines. She is author of more than 80 full paper publications and is member of the Guideline Development Group of the Italian Society of Haematology, since the year 2002. She practices at a large community hospital in Asti, Pedemont region. She wishes her research was more integrated into routine clinical activities and evidence could really support our everyday practice. She loves sharing the same research aims with clinicians and researchers from other countries, since this reinforces the common focus. She is fond of practicing cross country running, athletics and swimming, since she shares these sports with her daughter and husband.
