Dr. Komanduri S. Murty, Alma Jones Endowment Professor of Social Justice in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Fort Valley State University, is the author or co-author of over a dozen books and over a hundred book chapters and journal articles which have appeared in numerous books, encyclopedias, and peer-reviewed journals; and, presented over a hundred articles at professional meetings, both nationally and internationally. He served as professor and chairman of criminal justice and sociology for 25 years at Clark Atlanta University, where he received the 2005 Aldridge McMillan award for Outstanding Overall Achievement. He was the Visiting Fellow of the United Negro College Fund Special Programs (UNCFSP) in 2005; and the University Grants Commission (UGC) Visiting Professor of Criminal Justice at Andhra University, India in 1996, where he earned his M.A. in Sociology in 1977. He also holds a two-year Diploma in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Studies (sponsored by the United Nations) in 1979; and Ph.D. in Sociology (with a minor in Economics) from Mississippi State University in 1984. He also directed numerous Masters’ theses and doctoral dissertations and served as an overseas examiner to adjudicate many international doctoral dissertations in Law and other disciplines. He also served on research grant review panels at United Negro College Fund Special Programs; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA); National Institute of Mental Health; National Institute of Health; and Georgia Department of Children and Youth Services.
