Biography

Dr. Nour-Eddine Menad earned an M.S. at the School of Mine of Saint Petersburg in 1985 (Russian) on mineral processing (separation techniques in minerals and ores) and a Ph.D. at the National polytechnic institute of Nancy (France) in 1995. He is Project Leader and Engineer in physical and physicochemical processes at BRGM. Before that he was Associate Professor at Lulea University of Technology in Sweden, he was teaching and supervising several PhD students. He has been demonstrating industrial waste recycling since 1996. He focused on metallurgical wastes (slag, dusts etc.), in collaboration with Swedish and European industries. His technology development led to the publication of more than 100 articles in scientific journals, conferences and communications and at national and international levels and several patents. Since 1996 he participated in the European BRITE-EURAM DGXIII (1992-1996), and (2001-2004) on industrial waste recycling and metallurgical waste recycling and Biomine (2006-2008), WEEE recycling REWARD (2009-2012) He was honored at TMS conference in 2001. He is leader of the following projects:
• Recovery of rare earth elements contained in the fluorescent lamps by using physical and physicochemical separation techniques (French project)
• Recovery of several types of plastics from wastes of electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) by physical separation techniques. (European project).
• Use of plastics contained in Auto Shredder residues as reducing agent in metallurgical furnaces (French project)
• Recovery of rare earth elements present in permanent magnet in WEEE (French projects).
• Treatment of Electric Arc furnace Dusts (EAFD) (European project).
• Use supercritical waster to recover all metals form printed circuit boards (French project).
• Treatment of BOF slag (French project)
• Thermodynamic modelling of formation and destruction of dioxins during thermal treatment of printed circuit boards (Swedish project).
• Use of metallurgical slag in cement Industry (Swedish project)
