Tamara Kalir earned her Ph.D. from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., and her M.D. degree from University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. She performed her internship and residency in Pathology at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, followed by a fellowship in gynecologic pathology. She remained in the department as a gynecologic pathologist, ultimately assuming the role of Division Director in GYN Pathology and Program Director for the Selective Pathology Fellowship. Kalir has authored a number of publications from her research on gynecologic malignancies, with focus on endometriosis-derived cancers and ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma. She also teaches the medical student’s Sexual and Reproductive Health course, which covers topics ranging from basic pathophysiology to abortion and transgender healthcare. Her broad-ranging interests are displayed in chapters written on the placebo-nocebo effect, and impact of mindfulness techniques on immune function in cancer patients.
