Biography

Dr. John T.J. Cheng is a research fellow/associate working with Dr. Robert E.W Hancock in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He completed B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and continued to finish M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry (Physical biochemistry; senior supervisor: Dr. Jenifer L. Thewalt) at SFU. He received Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (Biological chemistry and physical chemistry; senior supervisor: Dr. Suzana K. Straus) at UBC on antimicrobial peptides, and continued his postdoctoral research work (Biochemistry: senior supervisor: Dr. François Jean) on antiviral peptides in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at UBC. Dr. Cheng is a physical biochemist by training and specializes in lipid biochemistry, protein biochemistry, and peptide chemistry, with research focuses in lipids, protein-protein and peptide-protein interactions, antimicrobial peptides and peptide-based therapeutics. He regularly publishes his research work in internationally well-respected, classical journals such as Biophysical Journal.
