William Olaho-Mukani holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University (1978), a Master’s of Science and PhD in Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology from the University Nairobi (1983 & 1989), Respectively. Worked as Graduate Assistant in the Department of Pathobiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Makerere University (1978-79); Research Fellow at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Nairobi (1981 &1984-1985) and Free University of Berlin (1989). Worked at the Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute (KETRI), Muguga for 15 year (1981-1996), where he rose to the post of Acting Deputy Director of Research, before moving to Uganda where he served as Director of Research at the Livestock Research Institute (LIRI) Tororo, for five years (1996-2001). As Director of Research he got the National Agricultural Research Award of Outstanding Director of Research in 2000. From LIRI he was appointed Director of Animal Resources in Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in Uganda where he worked for 10 years in that position (2001-2011). He later, joined the African Union in 2010 as Programme Leader for Transboundary Animal Diseases and Zoonoses Programme and also coordinated the Participation of African Nations in Standards Setting Orgaisations (PANSPSO) project for the East African Community (EAC) in 2011. From 2012 to July 2017 he was the Regional Coordinator for the EU-Funded AU-IBAR Reinfoncing Veterinary Governance in Africa (VETGOV) Project for the EAC Region. He has also supervised Undergraduate, MSc and PhD students at the University of Nairobi, Moi University and Makerere University from 1987-to date and has continued to be external Examiner in the Colleges of Animal Resources Veterinary Medicine and Biosecurity; and College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Makerere University. He was in the Task force that championed the transformation of Makerere University into Constituent Colleges (specifically the College of Agriculture and Environment and College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity). He was a Board Member of various national, regional and international Organisations and Secretary General, Vice- President and President of the World Organisation for Animal Heath (OIE) Regional Commission for Africa from 2002-2010. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the African Journal of Animal and Biomedical Sciences (AJABS); African Journal of Food, Journal of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health, Agriculture and Nutritional Development (AJFAND), Journal of Camel Practice and Research, the Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa and has reviewed articles for the Veterinary Journal (The British Veterinary Journal). Currently he is one of the Directors of the ARD Consult, Nairobi and Being considered for Honorary Professorship at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity, Makerere University.
