Before he started in Tuskegee University, he worked at the Institute of Agricultural Research Institute (Ethiopia), post doctoral fellow at the Institute of Cell Biology (University of Manitoba) and School of Medicine (Yale University). Currently, he is a Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), Tuskegee University, involved in teaching and research. His research focus is oriented to: a) Food safety and quality [foodborne pathogens detection, viability PCR and biothreat agents], b) Antibiotic resistance (mechanistic explanation of plant extracts as alternate antimicrobial choice), and c) Application of Metabolomics in food safety (use of metabolites fingerprinting based analytical tools as a detection tool, the metabolites as an indicator of bacterial stress, and explore biomarkers related to antibiotic resistance). The outcome of these studies will be instrumental to promote the appropriate use of foodborne detection and antimicrobial stewardship. Furthermore, he involved in teaching different courses to the veterinary, nursing, graduate and undergraduate students. He mentored and trained graduate students (MSc and PhD), summer and work-study students within the discipline of food safety, microbiology, molecular biology and antibiotic resistance.
