V Mikhalevich graduated with honors of the Biological Faculty of the St. Petersburgian University in Honor of A.I. Herzen and began to work in the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Laboratory of Protozoology (1961) where she currently works and where had Candidate (1975–Bottom Foraminifera off the Shelves of the Tropical Atlantic) and Doctoral (1992–Macrosystem of Foraminifera) Dissertations. The latter representing fundamentally new view on foraminiferal system and evolution later supported by the newest molecular data of Ya. Pawlowski and his school. She is the author of 300 scientific publications, including those in the international established editions, 5 monographs and chapter in Manual on Zoology (“Nauka”, SPb., 2000). In 1998 she worked as invited professor in Anger University (France), in 2015 was lecturing in Urbino University (Italy) at International School on Foraminifera (ISF). She was organizer and head of TV “Scientific Council” programme, SPb canal-100, under A Sakurov. She is corresponding member of European Academy of Sci., Arts & Literature (EASAL), honorable member of Grzybowski Foundation and member of several other scientific societies. She has the following Awards in Science: Sertificates of Honor of the Russian Academy of Sciences 2002, 2012, 2014, 2017; Grzybowski Foundation Award, 2006 (Intern. Micropaleontol. Soc.); Woman of the year in science-2009, St. Petersburg; EASAL (European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Literature) Testatur 2012; Certificate of Excellence in the "Best Manual Category", Club of Rectors Academic Council, Oxford: for the book "Post-Cambrian Testate Foraminifera as a system in its evolution", Nova Science Publishers, 2014; Commemorative medal 100 year anniversary of Russian Paleontological Society, 2016; Diploma “Winner of the Open International Scientist of the Year” Competition, 2017, Chicago; some literary Awards (as a member of the Union of Writers of Russia and International PEN club).
