Biography

Professor Fernando Diaz leads the Marine Freshwater Ecophysiology Group within the Marine Biotechnology Department (CICESE). He holds a Bachelor degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Master’s degree in Ecophysiology of aquatic organisms from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a PhD from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Professor Diaz is an inter-disciplinary researcher with broad interests in Aquaculture, Marine Biotechnology Functional Genomics of aquatic organisms. Her research centers on understanding the complex interactions between organisms and their environments, in controlled conditions. Her research group is pioneering ecophysiology and aquaculture research using innovative approaches. Most notably, Prof. Diaz has produced numerous publications on ecophysiology, functional genomics and aquaculture, especially mollusks, crustacean and fishes. He also has a strong focus on emerging new species such as abalone, scallops and geoduck visualizing the synergistic effect of climate change and acidification of the ocean on different physiological responses and gene expression.
