Biography

Xiaojing Yuan received his BS and MS degrees in Biology from Tsinghua University, with three years’ experience investigating olfactory memory formation in Drosophila. He then joined Dr. Iqbal Hamza’s lab at University of Maryland, College Park, and obtained his PhD degree in Animal Sciences in 2012. He is currently an Assistant Research Professor working on developing molecular and genetic tools to identify genes and pathways for heme transport and trafficking in eukaryotes. He has extensive experience using bacteria, yeast, Leishmania, mammalian cells and C. elegans as research models. Importantly, he is one of the core contributors to a high-throughput drug screen targeting heme transport in parasites.
