Namal Rathnayaka is the Head and Senior Lecturer in the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. He is also a Medical Toxicologist in Teaching Hospital Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. He is the Secretary of Expert Committee on Snakebites. He completed MBBS in 2005 in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from University of Peradeniya, Post-graduation Diploma in Buddhist Studies from Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka. He also worked as faculty in many institutions and published many Articles. Currently his ongoing projects are Study of anatomical and morphological characteristics of venomous and non-venomous snakes which are brought by snakebite victims to the Teaching Hospital, Clinico-epidemiology study of drug overdose in a tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka, Clinico-epidemiology of Hump-nosed pit viper envenomation, Clinical trial on newly developed Sri Lankan antivenom titled A Phase II/III randomized, controlled, open labelled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of snake venom antiserum-Sri Lanka (SL-ASV) developed for Sri Lankan species vs currently used anti snake venom, Ratnapura snakebite cohort and many more.
