Biography

Professor Xu Hongxi is the Distinguished Professor and Honorary Dean of School of Pharmacy, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Director of Engineering Research Center of Shanghai Colleges for TCM New Drug Discovery, the Director of Laboratory of Innovative Drug Research and Development of TCM. He has been actively involved in Chinese medicine research in various institutions in Japan, Singapore, Canada and Hong Kong. In recognition of his achievements, Prof. Xu was selected in the sixth batch of the Thousand Talents Program (The Recruitment Program of Global Experts) and serve as a “Specially-Appointed Professor of Shanghai”.

Being a renowned expert and academic in the field, Prof Xu has been appointed as the Secretary General of the National Administry Committee on Materia Medica under The Ministry of Education, PRC since 2021. Besides, he also currently serves as Member of Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission and the Vice-President of Specialty Committee of Anti-Virus Research with TCM of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS)

Prof Xu has published 16 books and 394 articles. His H-index is 73 and i10-index is 299 (Google scholar 23/10/7). Over the years, he obtained 57 patents from his research activities. He is ranked among the Top 2% of Scientists in the World by Stanford University, USA and is included in GlobalauthorID’s list of "the World’s Top Ten Thousand Scientists". Since 2014, he has also been among the "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" for 9 consecutive years.

Translational research in Chinese medicine New drug discovery from natural resources Development of botanical dietary supplements from herbal medicines particularly in finding natural lead compounds from medicinal plants HSV and metabolic diseases.
