Antonio J Ribeiro was born in Lisbon and he is professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Coimbra. He received his degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1991 from the University of Lisbon. He then pursued his studies in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University Paris XI in France. In 1997 he obtained his PhD degree from University Paris V in Pharmaceutical Technology specializing in microencapsulation under the supervision and co-supervision of Professors J. C. Chaumeil and Ronald J Neufeld, respectively. He received graduate training in both Europe and North America, has held academic positions in several Faculties of Pharmacy of Portugal. He is a specialist on pharmaceutical by training and has been working in the design and testing of biotechnology/biopharmaceuticals delivery systems for several years. Since 2001, he has managed to develop in Coimbra a competitive research group with the aim of oral delivery of insulin. He is the author of more than 100 publications including more than 50 peer review publications, 3 books’ chapters and 2 patents which have covered important areas in drug delivery, biopharmaceuticals and nanosystems.
