Cinzia Bordoni graduated in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Rome – La Sapienza in 2013 with a thesis about the â€New inhibitors of the GSK-3 beta kinase†in Professor Romano Silvestri’s research laboratory. Then, she worked as regulatory affairs and computer system validation junior consultant for different bio-pharma companies. She moved to Cardiff in 2013 to undertake a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry with Professor Andrea Brancale on “Discovery of novel Bcl-3 inhibitors for the potential treatment of metastatic breast cancer", where she form herself not only as a medicinal chemist, but also as a molecular biologist. She enhanced and improved these skills in the one-year experience as Post Doctoral Research Assistant in Professor Andrew Westwell’s research laboratory. Her current research work focuses on drug discovery and development, mainly on the in silico design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel small drug-like molecules and the hit-to-lead optimisation. She is also interested in the phenotypic screening of novel anti-cancer compounds and the investigation of their mechanism of action. Another area of interest is the organic chemistry and in particular, the microwave assisted organic synthesis.
