The Human Being Shall Change His Conception of Development

All the individuals that make up the wildlife species have the same need as the human species to feed, reproduce and survive in the environment to which they are adapted. It is these morphological, physiological and behavioral adaptations that prevent the natural resources that everyone uses from diminishing and becoming extinct. However, man has not evolved in the same way and it has not been the force, the claws, the dentition or the presence of enzymes capable of digesting cellulose, which has allowed us to evolve to what we currently are, but, the development of a highly complex brain capable of undertaking tasks that no other species could perform.

We have managed to protect ourselves from environmental aggressiveness, from the harsh climate, it is not necessary to fight dangerous animals to feed ourselves, we obtain food by raising animals that were wild and from vegetable and vegetable crops that were also wild. We have been able to manage nature to make possible the survival of millions of people across the planet.

This capacity, however, has transformed us into omnipotent beings and has made us think that we can live at the expense of nature, without taking care of its maintenance and conservation. We have not minded irrationally extracting resources of all kinds from the environment, to enrich groups of people, rather than to satisfy the needs of humanity. It has made us a selfish species, capable of turning health and education into businesses that enrich groups of people and limit most of the world’s population to access its benefits.

The fauna and flora have not escaped this shameful behavior and animals are used in all parts of the world for illegal fur, pet, food and pharmacology businesses, among others, despite the prohibition of such handling. Illegal logging, the destruction of forests, constitutes daily news. It Opinion should come as no surprise, then, that there is a worldwide alarm at the decline in biological diversity.

And all this, which we have mistakenly called development, seems to suddenly turn against ourselves. As it had already happened many years ago, an almost uncontrollable zoonosis, decimates the human population and shows us that although we are proud of our achievements in all sectors, the shortcomings in education and health, inequality in distribution of the resources and irrational exploitation of nature, take their toll on humanity and threatens to teach us, painfully, that we are one of the components of this planet and we are equally vulnerable.

This pandemic, which does not yet seem to have reached its maximum development and which has killed the rich and poor alike, people of various religions, races and customs, should serve us, from now on, to be more humble and responsible for our actions.

Let us hope that those who educate, those who heal and those who work to conserve nature and its resources are heard and considered, not as dreamers or visionaries, but as important forgers of the future and of true quality of life. I am hopeful that worldwide awareness of the importance of our species will be made, that we will change our way of life and that in future education at all levels, work will be done to instill solidarity rather than competition, collaboration more than selfishness.

The development of our society cannot continue to be considered in terms of economic achievements exclusively, the quality of life cannot be evaluated only by the possession of more or less objects.

If this were so, perhaps we were not suffering from this pandemic, perhaps it would have appeared the same, but the cost in lives would surely be much lower, something that does not seem to matter to some.

Our species will continue to evolve like all the others, but it is very possible that this environmental pressure we are experiencing forces us to accelerate this process, at least from the social point of view. If that did not happen, the future of humanity would be very worrying and doubtful indeed figure 1.
