Biography

Dr. Alam is a biomedical investigator who has been actively engaged in understanding the biology of host-microbiome interactions and mechanisms of inflammatory and innate immune regulation during intestinal infection, inflammation, and repair. His research program takes a highly interdisciplinary approach of meta’omics analysis (metabolome and metagenomics) and experimental pathobiology to investigate mucosal immunology and the role of the intestinal microbiome and its products in receptor mediated regulation of the physiological elements critical for intestinal inflammation and bacterial infection. Dr. Alam earned his PhD from the University of Rochester, focusing on microbial infection and inflammation of the GI tract, and gained extensive research experience at Emory University in gastrointestinal pathobiology
