Biography

Gwendolyn Haile Cattledge had an extensive career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her background includes a PhD in epidemiology and an MSEH in environmental health. During her 31 years at the CDC, she held leadership roles that impacted public health. Her epidemiologic research on fatal falls in construction led to policy changes. She also played a key role in implementing the National Occupational Research Agenda and championing the needs of vulnerable populations. In senior leadership positions, she oversaw the scientific review of extramural research, ethics protocols, program evaluations, training, and student programs. Furthermore, she led the Injury and Violence Prevention Workgroup for Healthy People 2020 and 2030. She has mentored hundreds of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Currently, Dr. Cattledge is a professor and the inaugural Director of the Doctor of Public Health Program at Mercer University, where she focuses on social determinants of health and ensuring equitable health outcomes for diverse populations.
