Biography

Johanna Marcela Vanegas Munera is from Medellín, Colombia. She began her undergraduate studies in Microbiology in July 2005, focusing on antimicrobial resistance, and completed her degree in May 2011. She then pursued an MSc in Microbiology with an emphasis on molecular epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections caused by carbapenem-resistant bacteria, finishing in April 2015. That same year (July 2015), she started her PhD in Epidemiology, focusing on infectious diseases, with a thesis analyzing the transmission and infection risks in hemodialysis patients, considering both community and hospital settings. She completed her PhD in December 2020 and have since worked as a professor and researcher at the School of Health Sciences at the Pontifical Bolivarian University. She mentor undergraduate and graduate students, write scientific articles, execute various research projects, and seek funding for these projects.
