Biography

Carlos Verea was born on March 19, 1969 in Caracas, Venezuela. He is son of Jose Manuel Verea, a Spanish taxidermist and canary breeder, and Ninette De Valery, a Nicaraguan model. He grew in a small agrarian town called El Hatillo, near Caracas city, Miranda state, a mountain place covered for a dense vegetation, mixed with patches of agricultural fields, where local fauna, especially birds, were plenty at the end of 20th century. After complete the elementary (Conopoima Schoolar Group, 1981) and high school (Alejo Fortique High School, 1986), he was educated at Central University of Venezuela, Maracay campus, as Agricultural Engineer (1993), where he also received his M. S. (2001) and Ph. D. (2009) in Agricultural Zoology. Since 1993, Carlos has worked professionally as researcher in the area of Ornithology. He was founder, with other ornithologist colleagues, of the Venezuelan Ornithologists Union (UVO). There, he runs the Committee for the Common Nomenclature of the Birds of Venezuela (2009–present). He is also founder and editor (2011–present) of Revista Venezolana de Ornitologia.
