Biography

Thambidorai has been practicing as a pediatric surgeon with interest in neonatal surgery and pediatric urology for the past 25 years in academic university departments including National University of Malaysia and University Malaya. He was involved in research in his clinical specialties since then and in the past 15 years has been involved actively in genetics and tissue engineering research as applied to pediatric surgical diseases such as Hirschsprung’s disease and urethral replacement. His recent research projects as a primary investigator include national project on RET gene in Hirscshprung’s disease and three internationally supported tissue engineering related research on urethral replacement. He has also been actively involved in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in clinical surgery and basic science subjects throughout his career. He also has an active interest in medical education as a subject. He has published extensively in indexed journals and presented in international meetings in surgery on subjects of his clinical and research interest. Apart from his Master’s degree from University of Madras, he has obtained fellowships from the Royal College of surgeons Edinburgh, Royal Australasian College of surgeons and also has been admitted as a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. He is a regular reviewer for the Medical journal of Malaysia, special issues of Pediatric surgery international for the Asian association of pediatric surgeons and Surgery international journal.
