Biography

Valerie Bryant, LCSW, Ph.D. is a relational psychoanalyst in private practice providing psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. She specializes in complex developmental trauma and resilience. She is formerly a tenured professor at Kean University Dept. of Social Work, and during her twenty years in academia, she was Assistant Chair and successfully coordinated its BSW-MSW reaccreditation and studied the intersectionality of race, gender, and culture in relation to African American female trauma, resilience, and resilience. Since leaving academia in 2010, Dr. Bryant has maintained a private practice and provides consultation and supervision to students and mental health professionals in the field. She is an adjunct professor at New York University Silver School of Social Work in its post-master’s program, teaching somatic experiencing, resilience, and microaggression. She is on the trauma faculty and a Board member at the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis and taught courses on intergenerational trauma, resilience and vulnerability. She serves as an EMDR and SEP trauma consultant at ICP and NIP trauma institutes.
