B K Konwar is Agri graduate with Gold medal, did MSc Agri in Plant Breeding and Genetics in 1983 with Distinction (>80% marks). In 1984, he joined AAU as Lecturer and in the next year became Assistant Professor. He took DIC (Micro) from Imperial College of Sci, Tech and Medicine, London and Ph D (Pl Biotech) from University of London in 1992. Returning to India, he joined back AAU and became Associate Professor in 1994. In the next year, he joined Tocklai Experimental Station, TRA, Jorhat as a Senior Scientist (Biotech) at the age of 36 years, became In-charge and Head in 1999. In 2002, he joined Tezpur University, Assam as Professor and HoD of Mol Biol and Biotechnology; also, Centre for Petroleum Biotechnology project and 2008 became Dean, School of Sci and Tech. He successfully transferred the technology for ‘Bioremediation of petroleum contaminated field soil†to ONGC. In 2009, he established the Centre for Petroleum Biotechnology at Tezpur University on permanent basis. On 7th Sept 2011, he became the Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University (Central) and completed the term of five years on 7th September 2016 and resumed the Professorship of Tezpur University. He completed 12 National level research projects, guided 42M Sc and 14 Ph D students, 03 pursuing. He filed 03 patents, deposited 11 gene sequences, published 130 popular Assamese articles, more than 30 English sci articles, 03topical books (total 5 books), 03 booklets and 17 book chapters. He published 134research papers, 61 in Conference Proceedings and 74 abstracts.
