Alberto Montaner Frutos is a Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Saragossa and assistant director of its Research Institute on Heritage and the Humanities. He is also the assistant director of the Section of Emblem Studies at the «Fernando el Católico» Institute (DPZ-CSIC). He has also served as director of the Arab and Islamic Studies division of the Institute of Islamic and Near East Studies, a joint venture of the Aragon Parliament, the University of Saragossa and the Spanish National Research Council (2004-2011). He has been an invited professor or visiting scholar in many universities, including Saint Petersburg, Oxford, Buenos Aires, Berkeley, the Sorbonne, Zurich and Stanford. He has published nearly sixty books and just over three hundred articles, and has participated in around fifteen audiovisual productions.
