Biography

Yogesh M Kulkarni was involved in biophysical and biochemical characterization of tensin, a tumor suppressor protein. His research interest in drug resistance in breast cancer was developed during my postdoctoral studies at West Virginia University (WVU), where he worked on a NIH/NCI funded R15 project that implemented proteomics and systems biology towards understanding cellular heterogeneity and emerging trastuzumab resistance in HER2+ breast cancer. This work has important implications in the clinical management of breast cancer to identify individuals who will develop resistance to molecularly targeted therapies. His research in breast cancer continued as a fellow on NIH/NCI funded R01 grant, at Hampton University, titled “APC mutation and Breast Cancer: Prevention by Curcumin” where his focus on the study was to use proteomics and cell biology techniques to identify proteins that play a role in prevention of ENU-induced mammary gland cancer by dietary spice curcumin in carriers of APC gene mutation. In his last postdoctoral position at Hampton University, his immediate responsibility was to study how modulation of autophagic and apoptotic pathways play a key role in cell death and survival in lung and breast cancer. His current research focuses on delineating the mechanisms of acquired drug resistance to PARP-inhibitor in Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
