Biography

Fuyan Li is a marine microbiologist with training in molecular microbiology (BS, School of Life Sciences, Yunnan University, China), and organic geochemistry (MS, School of Earth Science and Resources, China University of Geosciences Beijing, China) and marine biology (PhD, School of Ocean and Earth Science, Tongji University). She is a postdoc in marine microbiology, working in Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education (CMORE) at the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has been leading research on the community structure, diversity and biological and ecological functions of free-living and rapid-sinking particle-associated prokaryotes over time (up to 8.5 years) and depth (5-4000m), and their contribution to sinking particle export in the North Pacific Subtropic Gyre (NPSG), using integrated analyses of 16S rRNA gene amplicons, metagenomic data and archaeal membrane lipids.
