Prabha Amarasinghe is a plant biologist who conducts interdisciplinary research. She earned her Ph.D. in botany from the University of Florida, USA, her M.Sc. in molecular life sciences from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and her B.Sc. in agricultural technology and management. She continued her research as a postdoctoral researcher at Prairie View A&M University, USA. She has over a decade of field botany experience in the South Asian, Southeast Asian and African regions. Currently, she is a research scientist at MOgene, USA, conducting high throughput genome sequencing research. Additionally, she is involved in genome editing research for crop development. In her previous projects, she used genomics, bioinformatics, cytology, ecology, anatomy and morphology of plants to generate predictive models that address fundamental and applied questions. She combined these heterogeneous datasets to gain new insights into plant evolution, conservation, and molecular techniques in crop improvement.
