Biography

Dr. Victor Tien-Cheng Cheng is the Director of the Crime Prevention Research Center at the Academy for the Judiciary under Taiwan Ministry of Justice. He has previously held several senior positions, including high-ranking official in the Department of Planning at the Ministry of Justice and Senior Probation and Parole Officer at multiple Prosecutors’ Offices. Additionally, he is an adjunct Professor at the Taiwan Police College and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the esteemed peer-reviewed Journal Criminal Policies and Crime Prevention, as well as an Editorial Board member of the Legal Journal Judicial Newsletter. He has conducted academic exchanges and research at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge in UK and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security, and Law in Germany. He maintains strong connections with some government judicial institutions and universities, integrating both academic and practical perspectives in the professional work. His scholarly contributions and professional expertise have been recognized through numerous research honors and awards from both governmental and academic organizations. His research interests encompass a broad spectrum of criminological and forensic disciplines, including criminology and criminal justice, crime prevention, forensic psychology, forensic social work, psychology and law, social cognitive neuroscience, restorative justice, offender rehabilitation and correction, risk assessment and management, program evaluation, and evidence-based criminal policy. Additionally, his work explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and judicial processes, with a particular focus on emerging trends in transnational and cross-strait crime. Dr. Cheng’s research adopts an interdisciplinary and empirically driven approach, contributing to the advancement of contemporary criminological theory and in addressing emerging crime challenges.
