Biography

His scientific research focus is the elucidation of regulatory mechanism of cancer cell invasion and metastasis, and seeking the better molecular target for clinical application. He started the work with cell motility and found the pivotal role of Rho-family small GTPases and their downstream signaling (Rho-ROCK-myosin and Rho-ROCK-LIMK) for the regulation of cancer invasion/metastasis (JBC 273, 5140, 1998; Nature Medicine 5, 221, 1999; Cancer Research 589, 2004, 1999; PNAS 100, 7241, 2003). However, he shortly found that most of the signaling pathway was not specific for cancer and that chemokine-induced lymphocyte migration share the same tool with collaborative work (J Immunology 168, 400, 2001; J Immunology 171, 1023, 2003). Thus, they are now focusing several metastasis related proteins and developing new target therapy using xenograft model (CEM 27, 619, 2010; Cancer Cell 19, 125, 2011). As a board member of JAMR and MRS (Japanese and international society for cancer metastasis), I have been working for developing the research group among surgeon, medical oncologist and pharmaceutical companies to fight against metastasis.
