Abdelrahim is a gastrointestinal medical oncology where he is taking care of patients with upper and lower GI tract malignancies in addition to pancreatic, liver, neuroendocrine and GIST cancers. He is leading the GI clinical trial section at Houston Methodist Cancer Center with focus on advanced trial Phase II/III in GI malignancies. He is also the Medical Director of Cockrell Center for Advanced Therapeutics where he is leading Phase I program at Houston Methodist Hospital and cancer center. He is a principal investigator on multiple early phase clinical trials with focus on chemotherapy, targeted therapy and Immunotherapy in solid malignancies.
He have identified for the first time a new structural class of compounds that can target selective transcription factor that are now recognized as targets for the development of new anticancer drugs. The lead compound of this class reached Phase I Clinical Trial to treat patients with GI cancers. He has published more than 90 original research articles, review articles and book chapters in prestigious journals and publishing groups. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Association of Cancer Research and he is the site Principal Investigator for Southwest Oncology cooperative Group at Houston Methodist Cancer Center. He is Co-Chair of the Clinical Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC) at Houston Methodist Cancer Center and the clinical moderator for the Colorectal Cancer Tumor Board.
He completed pharmacy training followed by Doctor of Philosophy and graduate work in the field of pharmacology and toxicology from Texas A &M University, College Station, Tx. He obtained his Medical Degree from Texas A&M University and then Residency from Baylor College of Medicine. He then Moved to North Carolina where he finished his Medical Oncology fellowship from Duke University College of Methodist.
