Biography

Sarker is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London. He is a Biostatistician and Epidemiologist. He holds a PhD in Statistics (University of Surrey, 2002), an MSc in Epidemiology (Erasmus University Rotterdam, 1998) and another MSc in Statistics (1995). Dr Sarker was recognised nationally for his successful endeavour for challenging students’ fear and negative attitudes towards statistics (short listed for the Times Higher Education Award 2016 in “Outstanding Digital Innovation in Teaching and Research” category). He carried out research in a number of inter-disciplinary areas over the last 15 years and published over 105 refereed scientific articles. He significantly contributed to methods for calculating smaller sample sizes for phase II clinical trials in cancer and for cost-effectiveness trials. He possess extensive experience of leading (design, implementation, analysis and interpretation) a substantial (>40) portfolio of multicentre cancer trials which are resulting in high profile publications in leading medical journals including Journal of Clinical Oncology. Dr Sarker is a reviewer for several international journals including PLOS ONE and is a member of several national Independent Data Monitoring Committees.
