Dr Anupam Sarkar former Senior Principal Scientist of the National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa, India. He is presently working as the Director of a consulting firm, named Global Enviro-Care, Caranzalem, Goa, India. He has 37 years of research experience in the field of Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology. He carried out extensive studies in various toxicological aspects relating to enzyme toxicity, DNA damage, enzyme induction of cytochrome P-450 1A1 enzyme system due to exposure to xenobiotic contaminants. Apart from these, he studied acetylcholinesterase activity, glutathione-s-transferase activity, Catalase activity, lipid peroxidation, reactive oxygen species, comet assays, DNA integrity measurement, DNA strand breaks, Phyto-toxicity, acute toxicity, subacute chronic toxicity, pesticidal activity, persistent organic pollutants contamination such as polychlorinated biphenyls, polychlorinated dibenzo (a) dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzo(a) furans, DDT, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, HCH, BHC, Hepox, Heptaclor etc. He published more than 130 publications in different International journals. He reviewed scientific papers for about 36 International journals. He guided 5 students for PhD 19 International students and 45 Indian students for internship and dissertation. He is a visiting professor of a number of universities such as Central University of Orrisa, Koraput, Calcutta University, West Bengal, Goa University, Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, Goa Campus, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in India and University of Limoges, France and ENSIL in Limoges, France. He have led several projects in the field of environmental risk assessment and toxicity.
