Biography

Dr. Achinta Sannigrahi is postdoctoral research scientist in the department of chemical engineering in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He started his postdoctoral research career with Human frontiers Research Program (HPSF) and the topic of his research interest was the understanding of viral fusion mechanism. Next, he got SERB national Postdoctoral fellowship to continue his postdoctoral research work on â€˜Mechanistic understanding of viral entry towards the development of potential antiviralsâ€™. He is investigating the membrane fusion process using single molecule imaging techniques. Before the postdoctoral research, he completed his doctoral research from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology where his research work was based on the topic- â€˜Studies of protein-membrane interactions towards model infectious disease and neurodegenerative diseasesâ€™. During his PhD, he tried to solve some important problems regarding protein-membrane interaction phenomenon in different disease systems ranging from infectious diseases like Leishmaniasis, Tuberculosis and neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and prion diseases. He studied the mechanism of the neurodegenerative disease, ALS due to impairment of metal ions of Cu/Zn SOD1 and the interacting membranes using single molecule fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.
