Biography

Dr. Liu started her research training in human disease genetics at Fudan University Institute of Genetics in China. She has a great passion for identification of novel biomarkers and targets for anti-HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) drug screening. During her graduate school years, she cloned and characterized two tumor differential expression genes cr1 and cr2 as new biomarkers for clinical prognosis and novel targets for drug screening. After obtained her Ph.D. degree in Genetics in 2006, she came to NYU Langone Medical Center in 2009 as a postdoctoral fellow to receive extensive research training in neurobiology with special focus on development of novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases. In 2014 she became a Research Assistant Professor in the Neurology Department at NYU School of Medicine. Previously, she was a research fellow at the University of Minnesota and worked on developing novel transgenic mouse models for ion channels function research and using primary neuron culture and cell life imagining techniques to trace opioid induced changes in dendritic spines.

Research Interests

Elucidate the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and Prion disease as well as other neurodegenerative diseases with an aim to develop novel therapeutic interventions.
