Biography

Dr. Ben King is an epidemiologist and Research Scientist at the University of Texas Dell Medical School Stroke Institute, in the Department of Neurology. He is the President and Chief Scientific Officer of Methods and Results, a research consulting service. He is also in his final year as a doctoral candidate at the UT-Houston School of Public Health, in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Services. His current work at UT DMS is primarily focused on studies of stroke risks factor surveillance, imaging targets, and outcome measurement strategies. He primarily designs and develops clinical trials and hospital-based cohort studies, using centralized and disease-specific datasets to model stroke imaging characteristics and outcome variability. He was the founding manager of Emergency Medicine research at Seton Healthcare Family in 2008 and this role has transformed over the years, integrating emergency medicine and neurology research programs with clinical and social innovation concepts, until landing in his current position as Research Scientist and Research Development Manager for the Seton / UT Dell Medical School Stroke Institute. Given his background working with biomedical and healthcare-focused start up initiatives and community-based non-profits, particularly in housing/homelessness services and mental health programs, he maintains relationships to these communities in Austin and provides program evaluation and epidemiologic services through his consulting business. He has served in multiple leadership roles at the American Public Health Association, as a peer reviewer for multiple journals, and as a member of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council's Research Coordinating Committee.
