Biography

Fares Nigim has high expectations and confidence in his abilities. This has enabled him to achieve the highest quality of results throughout his career. He was born in Israel and grew up between the Israeli and Italian mainland. He had graduated from medical school at Ferrara University in Northern Italy. Developing a strong interest in Neuroscience when he was awarded an international scholarship to study in an advanced Neuro-anatomy program and to attend other preclinical courses, at the New York University Medical School. He have always been fascinated and awed by the complexity of the brain, and out of this fascination developed a dream to study the complex biology of brain tumors. He had the privilege of travelling to Lima (Peru), as well as the opportunity to complete his Neurological and Neurosurgical sub-internships at the Maastricht Medical Centre and at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. As a medical student in both these exchanges, he had a great chance to attend and participate closely in various brain tumor clinics, upon which he realized that he wanted to become a brain doctor. This decision led him to Boston, where he put his clinical aspirations on hold, to further pursue the arena of basic science research as it pertained to brain tumors and acquire a PhD degree and combining it with clinical research fellowship in Neuro-Oncology. He wants to use his knowledge as a clinician to identify diseases that are refractory to clinical treatment and go back to the lab to perform extensive studies on them, and, finally come up with an alternative plan to benefit ultimately the patients. Here, at Harvard, He had thoroughly and broadly studied glioblastoma and Meningiomas, from the clinical to the basic science level.
