Biography

Mohammed Tarique was working as Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Parasite biology group at International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi. He did her B.Sc. (Chemistry and Botany) in 2006 from Shibli National College, Azamgarh, UP and M.Sc. (Biotechnology) in 2008 from the department of biotechnology, Hamdard University, New Delhi, India. After completion of my M.Sc. program, he has joined the ICGEB, New Delhi as Pre-doctoral fellow and he focused her research on understanding the mismatch repair complex of malaria parasite. Our finding revealed many interesting facts about the MMR pathway and their associated components. We have characterized the first eukaryotic UvrD helicase from Plasmodium falciparum. He have also been part of the several research teams to study the Plasmodium falciparum DOZI (DDX6 Helicase), Plasmodium falciparum MLH, Werner (WRN) helicase, BLOOM (BLM) helicase, RuvB1 helicase, XPD helicase, XPB helicase, UvrD helicase, and several plant helicases like Oryza sativa BAT1, Oryza sativa SUV3 and Pisum sativum. Recently we focused to identify the inhibitor molecule of the helicases of therapeutic importance like UvrD helicase. Currently our work focused to identify the inhibitor molecule of PfMLH protein. Considering the previous and current finding about PfMLH and PfUvrD, it seems that targeting their interaction and or their biochemical activities may emerge as suitable therapeutic target for the control of malaria.

Research Interests

To study the proteins involved in DNA repair pathway of Plasmodium falciparum and to identify the novel inhibitors against these proteins.
