Biography

: Miroslav D Filipovic is a distinguished astrophysicist and polymath with over four decades of research experience in astronomy, specializing in radio astronomy, high-energy astrophysics, and astrobiology. His work focuses on cosmic-ray sources, supernovae, active galactic nuclei, stellar evolution, and the search for life in the Universe (SETI). A multi-messenger astronomer, he has contributed significantly to understanding the Milky Way’s structure, galaxy evolution, and habitable zones. Prof. Filipovic has worked with some of the world’s leading telescopes, including ASKAP, ATCA, Parkes, MWA, VLA, HST, ROSAT, CHANDRA, XMM-Newton, H.E.S.S., and SALT, and is actively involved in major international collaborations such as SKA, CTA, KM3NeT, and eROSITA. A highlight of his career includes flying on NASA’s SOFIA science mission in 2018 and co-discovering several unique radio sources, such as Potoroo, Perun, and LMC-ORC, using ASKAP. He has published over 450 research papers (350 refereed) and two IOP books, Multimessenger Astronomy in Practice and Principles of Multimessenger Astronomy (2022). Prof. Filipović has supervised over 45 postgraduate students, many of whom now hold prominent academic and industry positions. He has also contributed to major edited volumes, including Science with the CTA and Advancing the Landscape of Multimessenger Science in the Next Decade.
