Biography

Gatti has been in charge of the Laboratory of Biomaterials at the University of Modena (Italy) for 32 years and now is Associate Professor at the National Council of Research of Italy, Institute of Science and Technology of Ceramic Materials. In 2012 she was awarded and listed among the International Fellows of the Societies of Biomaterials and Engineering. She founded Nanodiagnostics, a research company whose main missions are investigating on nanopathologies and performing forensic investigations on the exposure to nanosized contamination. She is a consultant to the Italian Government’s Commissions for the pathologies contracted by the soldiers engaged is war (or peace) missions (Depleted-Uranium diseases). Dr. Gatti is also Visiting Professor at NUARI (Washington, USA), an Institute of the US Department of State, and was a consultant to the European Science Foundation. She was in charge of many national and international Projects: EU Project Nanopathology, EU Project DIPNA of nanotoxicity and INESE a nanoecotoxicological project of the Italian Institute of Nantotechnology. She had many collaborations for research with the Ministry of Defence (Batnan). She is the discoverer of “nanopathologies”, i.e. the pathologies due to engineered or incidental nanoparticles that can cause illnesses like cancer and other diseases whose origin is still largely unknown. Her pioneering studies were supported by the European Commission, by the Italian Institute of Technology and by the Italian Ministry of Defense. She was active as international coordinator of many research projects. For her studies she was invited twice at the House of Lords in London for a hearing. She is the author of more than 250 articles, 2 books and 7 chapters in other author’s books. She belongs to the editorial Board of the Int. J. of Nanomedicine and Research and is a referee to other international journals. She was member of a few European Commissions and NGOs (ANEC, ECOS) and worked at ISO and OECD for the Nanomaterials Standardization.
