Biography

Before joining to the current Susan Pierce’s lab, She worked in T cell immunology lab for five years even though she received her Ph.D in Immunology with the study how the trafficking of MHC class I and expression can be regulated by a surface receptor called CD99 in B cells at Department of Pathology in Medicine, Seoul National University, South Korea in 2000. This period was the most important experience to her to put the first step into the Immunology filed during my Immunology career path switching from the study of plant molecular biology for the gene expression and regulation in the first lab experience. Since she joined to Susan Pierce’s lab in Laboratory of Immunogenetics, NIAID, NIH as a postdoc in September 2000, she currently working as a staff scientist pursuing the research in B cell immunology how B cells can influence on humoral immunity during pathogen infection, especially in malaria in human. During her research career in NIH, she has various topics studied from molecular mechanism of receptor modulation for the activation to the functional influence on B cell development but focused on B cell immunology. In addition, she acquired various skills and technologies from classical biochemical and immunological assay tool to cutting-edge microscopy techniques including total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy to study the B cell receptors and co-receptors for their signaling and regulation involving in B cell development, activation, differentiation and cell death influencing on the humoral immunities, immune deficiencies upon pathogen infection and vaccine as an application.
