Biography

Muhammad Shafique is a PhD in Medical Microbiology (Vaccinology, Virology and Immunology) from University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands. He is currently working as Assistant Professor in Department of Microbiology, Government College University Faisalabad (Pakistan). His group is focusing on important viral/bacterial diseases of humans like HCV, HBV, RSV &Measles as well as animals such as NDV and IBDV. The group is also working for development and evaluation of animal vaccines (poultry) by using novel techniques against Newcastle Disease virus. His research also focuses on elucidation of different immunological and metabolic biomarkers associated with atherosclerosis in heart disease patients. Six M.Phil students have been successfully graduated and currently, four PhD and seven M. Phil students are working in this group. His group is also working in collaboration with various National and International research institutes and universities in order to successfully execute the projects. He had secured research grants/funding during his PhD as well as after completing PhD, he received various research projects from prestigious national funding agencies including Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Prior to joining Government College University Faisalabad, he served as researcher at National Institute for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad for a period of ten years. He has authored or coauthored papers on journals such as Vaccine, Plos One, Future Virology, Archives of Virology, Saudi Medical Journal, Journal of Herbal Medicine, Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Polish Journal of Microbiology. Moreover, he presented his research at National and International forums at various countries including Netherlands, Denmark and Turkey. Furthermore, he is a permanent member of various scientific organizations including American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and Biosafety Association of Pakistan (BSAP).
