Biography

Avirup Chakraborty part of the brain cancer stem cell research group as an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. His academic journey began with earning my BS and MS degrees from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India. He went on to complete my PhD at ICMR NICED, Kolkata, India, under the supervision of Dr. Deleyrolle. His doctoral research focused on studying the immune system’s responses to Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and its impact on HIV-1 progression in both pediatric and adult populations. Furthermore, he explored how HCMV-induced immune alterations complicate outcomes in kidney and autologous stem cell transplant recipients. Following his PhD, he gained valuable postdoctoral experience in viral and cardiovascular immunity at the University of Franche-Comte, Besancon, France, and The Ohio State University, USA. In 2022, he joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. His current research interests encompass several areas: investigating metabolic diversity within brain tumors, developing and accessing novel metabolic treatments for brain cancer, exploring metabolic interactions within the tumor microenvironment, optimizing T cells metabolically to enhance immunotherapy efficacy, and evaluating the immunogenic potential of RNA from slow-cycling tumor cells to advance cancer immunotherapies.
