Biography

Gustavo Rivero completed my medical school in the Francisco de Miranda University in Coro, Venezuela. Soon after, he relocated to Chicago Illinois in 2002. After becoming an internal medicine physician, he had the opportunity to join The National Institute of Health, National Heart Lung Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland and finished his Hematology and Oncology fellowship. He completed one year and half research time in the leukemia division at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. During this time, he investigated the role of timed-sequential therapy in core binding acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and asparaginase toxicity in adult patients diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since graduating, he is part of Baylor College of Medicine. As member of the adult working group for AML and myelodysplasia (MDS), he work as physician scientist to develop new therapies for these 2 diseases. His area of interest is treatment of myelodysplasia and acute myelogenous leukemia. We investigate the impact of aging in the origin of these disease and how novel therapies affect innate immunity to modify clinical outcome of MDS.

Research Interests

Myelodysplasia Leukemia and Myeloproliferative Disease Developing new Treatment Paradigms for these Diseases.
