Biography

Dr. Hamda Al Naemi earned her PhD in Physiological Sciences from College of Medicine, University of Arizona in Dec 1999. She is specialized in vivo research in area of cardiovascular physiology. Her research achieved an international recognition from the American Physiological Society; she was awarded travel award for the best scientific abstract in 1997 and the Caroline tum Suden/Frances AHellebrandt Professional Opportunity Award for Meritorious Research in 1999. She joined the Department of Biological Sciences at Qatar University in 2000 as an assistant professor of physiology and immunology. She served as Head of Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences for six years; 2006-2012. During this period, she reformed the department and introduced environmental sciences as a major component of the department. She has initiated and led several multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate academic and research programs in biological, environmental and marine sciences as well as biotechnology. All efforts aimed to promote Academic and scientific research endeavors for both faculty and students. She has several recognized achievements such as the accreditation for the bachelor and the master environmental science programs from The Committee of Heads of Environmental Sciences (CHES). Dr. Hamda continued to address research need at Qatar and founded in 2015 the first state of the art vivarium at the country; the Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC) which provides a strong platform for biomedical research at Qatar.
