Graduated from Moscow University in 1976 as soil microbiologist. Postdoctoral research at London University (John Pirt laboratory) added biomathematical and fermentation skills to my ecological background. Back to Moscow, He applied this approach to environmental biotechnology and Global Climate Changes. In 1990-1999, He was heavily involved in international cooperation being instrumental in setting up the field stations in West-Siberia to monitor gaseous emission to atmosphere (jointly with US, EU and Japan). By this time, the negative impact of ae Perestroikaae on fundamental research became evident, so He gladly accepted invitation to move to USA as professor in Chemical Biology, Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ. My major research focus shifted to tundra and permafrost, the most vulnerable Earth components. Unfortunately, Stevens changed priorities drifting away from environmental sciences, So he had to continue my research as visiting scientist elsewhere: at Dartmouth, Harvard and MIT. Presently, he teaches at Northeastern University, Boston and do research on microbial ecology.
